About our name change

We changed the name of our company from TransCanada to TC Energy, following the approval of our shareholders at our Annual and Special Meeting of Shareholders on May 3, 2019.

Our new name TC Energy better reflects the scope of our operations and reinforces our position as a leading North American energy infrastructure company.

“While our strategy and priorities remain the same, we believe the new name will help to further unite our employees and will enable us to better connect with our diverse stakeholders. Whether they know us as TC Energy in English, TC Énergie in French, or TC Energía in Spanish, the communities where we operate can continue to count on us to follow through on our commitments and live up to our values of Safety, Integrity, Responsibility and Collaboration in everything we do.”

— Russ Girling, President and CEO

Our footprint extends across Canada, the United States, and Mexico

TransCanada was founded in 1951 to develop the TransCanada Pipeline (now the Canadian Mainline) to ship natural gas from Western Canada to markets in the east. Since then, we have built a rich history delivering energy safely and reliably from where it’s produced to where it's needed.

Today, we are still the company we were back then, but the role we’ve quietly played in fulfilling society’s thirst for all forms of energy has grown significantly. We continue to deliver the energy that millions of people rely on every day – but our complete business now includes pipelines, power generation and energy storage operations, with our footprint extending across the continent.

Tomorrow, who will we be?

We will still be leaders in the safe and reliable delivery of the energy required to keep the lights on, buildings warm and society moving forward.

We are committed to environmental sustainability

Why TC Energy?

The name TC Energy is a clearer articulation of our complete business, from pipelines to power generation to energy storage operations. It also reflects our growth into an enterprise that has assets and employees across North America and continues to grow.

For a company that operates in three countries across multiple provinces and states, diversity is all in a day’s work

One company

Our people are our greatest resource, and with employees stretching over seven provinces in Canada, 34 states in the U.S. and seven states in Mexico, we want our name to reflect the diversity that makes us who we are today, whether it’s TC Energy, TC Énergie or TC Energía.
