Albersun Pipeline Asset Purchase

Overview

On March 9, 2018, NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL), a wholly owned subsidiary of TransCanada PipeLines Limited (TransCanada), received regulatory approval to purchase and assume operation of sections of the existing Albersun Pipeline, from Suncor Energy Logistics Corporation (Suncor). The Albersun Pipeline provides natural gas delivery services within the Fort McMurray area of Alberta.

NGTL has agreed to purchase approximately 179 km of the Suncor Pipeline with related components, including valve sites, launcher and receiver facilities, the Mildred Lake East Sales Meter Station, and other related facilities.

Because the NGTL System is regulated by the National Energy Board (NEB), and the facilities in the acquisition are currently regulated by the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), those facilities will become part of the NGTL System and subject to NEB jurisdiction following the acquisition.

TransCanada formally filed an application the NEB on April 27, 2016. The application included a request to acquire facilities from Suncor pursuant to section 74 of the NEB Act and for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity pursuant to section 52 of the NEB Act.
