Overview |
Located in British Columbia’s Peace River Regional District, the North Montney Mainline (NMML) will generate long-term economic benefits for the province and Canada.
This 206 km (128 mile), 42-inch diameter pipeline, which will also include metering facilities, valve sites, and compression facilities, will provide the critical natural gas transmission infrastructure required to connect natural gas producers and downstream markets throughout Canada and the United States, generating jobs and tax revenues for hospitals, schools and more in some of the B.C.’s more remote communities.
The Project consists of a 206 kilometre (km), 42-inch pipeline, two compressor stations, and 14 meter stations. It will begin at a the northern point of the existing Saturn section of the Groundbirch Mainline at 14-21-80-20-W6M and terminate at the Blair Creek Receipt Meter Station located in Unit 30, Block K, Group 94-G-7.

Schedule
TransCanada began construction in August of 2018, and facilities will be phased into service over a two-year period, beginning in September 2019.

The proposed North Montney Mainline will be part of the NGTL System, which is governed according to regulations outlined by the National Energy Board (NEB).
Regulatory Information
In March 2017, TransCanada filed a variance application, with the National Energy Board, The Project was originally approved in 2013, subject to conditions making construction contingent on a positive final investment decision on the then proposed PNW LNG liquefication project. NGTL sought approval to remove those conditions through its variance application which included restructured commercial Project arrangements and the associated facilities to accommodate a delay, or as occurred in July 2017, a cancellation of the PNW LNG Project.
In May 2018, the NEB recommended approval of the variance application.
In July 2018, NGTL received Amending Order AO-003-GC-125 (the Order) from the NEB and approved by Governor in Council, approving the variance application and construction of the Project.
In order to obtain the certificate, TransCanada made several project commitments that will now be tracked on a monthly basis. We are required to post and update the status of the project commitments on a monthly basis until the start of operation, and on a quarterly basis until the end of the fifth year of operation. The North Montney commitments tracking table is provided below.
