Overview |
TransCanada owns or has interests in 11 power generation facilities with combined capacity of approximately 6,600 megawatts (MW) – enough to power more than 6 million homes.
Nearly half of the power we provide is generated from an emission-less nuclear power facility and we are leaders in the development and operation of high efficiency, natural gas-fired generating stations.
In total, TransCanada manages, operates and markets close to 450 megawatts (MW) of electricity in the Alberta. TransCanada is directly involved in all facets of the Alberta power market with expertise in power marketing and trading, generation development, retail services (billing and load settlement) and regulatory issues.
LEARN MORELocated in the community of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Bear Creek Cogeneration Plant produces up to 100 megawatts of electricity to both Weyerhaeuser’s Grande Prairie Pulp and Sawmill and Alberta’s competitive electricity market.
LEARN MOREThe Bécancour Power Plant is a 550 MW cogeneration facility located in Bécancour, Quebec. It can supply electricity to Hydro-Québec Distribution to meet electricity demands in the province of Québec and provides a source of steam for a neighbouring company in the industrial park.
LEARN MOREWith a history of safe nuclear generation dating to 1967, Bruce Power currently supplies roughly 30% of Ontario’s electricity. In 2015, the plant entered into a long-term contract with the Provincial government extending its life to 2064, ensuring a stable source of carbon-free electricity for decades.
LEARN MORECarseland Cogeneration Plant has been providing Alberta with up to 95 megawatts of electricity from its industrial cogeneration plant in Carseland, Alberta. It supplies power to Nutrien’s Carseland Nitrogen Operation as well as needed support for the Southern Alberta electrical grid.
LEARN MOREThe Coolidge Generating Station is a natural gas-fired power generating station in Coolidge, Arizona. This “simple-cycle” station generates up to 575 megawatts of electricity, enough for 575,000 homes in the state.
LEARN MOREA 90 megawatt, natural gas-fired cogeneration facility in Saint John, New Brunswick, the Grandview Cogeneration Plant provides power for an Irving Oil Refinery.
LEARN MOREWith the ability to generate electricity for 600,000 homes, the Halton Hills Generating Station is important to Ontario’s energy mix.
LEARN MOREMacKay River is an industrial cogeneration project that is situated on Suncor’s MacKay River oilsands development, 60 km (37 miles) west of Fort McMurray, Alta.
LEARN MOREOnce completed, TransCanada’s $1.2 billion Napanee Generating Station will produce 900 megawatts of electricity.
LEARN MORETransCanada has been an active participant in Ontario’s energy market for years. In addition to our extensive pipeline system, we have helped shape the power market in recent years and grown to become the largest independent power producer in the province, with a power-generation capacity of 4,138 megawatts.
LEARN MOREThe Portlands Energy Centre (PEC) is a natural gas-fired generating plant that provides 550 megawatts of electricity in Toronto. Primarily operated during periods of peak demand, PEC has a “high efficiency factor,” meaning it maximizes fuel to produce electricity as efficiently and affordably as possible.
LEARN MOREThe Redwater Cogeneration Plant, located at Williams Energy Canada Fractionation and Storage Plant in Redwater, Alta., has provided the province with approximately 46 megawatts of electricity since 2001.
LEARN MOREThe U.S. Northeast Power Marketing business provides full-service electric supply to commercial, industrial and institutional customers in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and New York.
LEARN MOREOur Western Power Marketing division serves wholesale, commercial and industrial retail electricity customers in Alberta.
