Columbia Midstream

Gibraltar and Buffalo Creek System is used to transport natural gas through Washington County, Pennsylvania. Gibraltar is a 16-mile, 36-inch-diameter pipeline that transports gas south from Claysville, Pennsylvania, to a point near Columbia’s Majorsville Compressor Station. Buffalo Creek ties into Gibraltar, extending north from Claysville, to a point near Houston, Pennsylvania, adding nine miles of 36-inch-diameter pipeline to the system.

The system runs adjacent to Columbia Gas Transmission’s line 1758 and provides an additional 1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of transportation capacity.

Gibraltar and Buffalo Creek allow producers to access Columbia’s Leach XPress, a 160 mile (258 km) transmission line extending through the West Virginia panhandle and southeastern Ohio to high-demand energy markets.

The Hickory Bend Gathering System includes approximately 60 miles (96.6 km) of 20- and 24-inch wet gas gathering and natural gas liquids pipeline facilities in northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Upon completion, the system’s total will be more than 600 million cubic feet of gas per day. The project also includes a cryogenic processing facility in Mahoning County, Ohio, capable of processing an expandable 200 million to 800 million cubic feet of gas per day.

Joint ventures

Two joint ventures were formed with affiliates of HHickory Bend Gathering Systemilcorp Energy Company to construct and operate the Hickory Bend Gathering and Processing Franchise. Both are held under the Pennant Midstream banner.

The first of these, an upstream development partnership, combines Columbia Midstream acreage position with that of a larger position held by Hilcorp. The second resulted in the formation of Pennant Midstream LLC. This 50/50 joint venture is tasked with building the gathering and processing franchise, anchored by the upstream joint venture acreage position in the area.

In September 2015, Three Rivers Midstream, an affiliate of Williams, joined the Pennant Midstream joint venture as a five percent owner.

The Majorsville Gathering System is a 46 mile (74 km) pipeline that transports liquid-rich Marcellus gas. Gas is transported from Washington and Greene Counties in Pennsylvania, along with gas from Marshall County in West Virginia, to the MarkWest Liberty Majorsville Processing Plant.

The project also includes a 7,100 horsepower natural gas compressor station in Dallas, West Virginia. The system was developed as part of the first integrated gathering and processing system to serve Marcellus natural gas production in southwest Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia.

The Big Pine Gathering System is comprised of a 55-mile (88.5-km), 20- and 24-inch gathering pipeline running through the heart of the Pennsylvania Marcellus shale play. (Operating in Butler, Armstrong, Indiana and Westmoreland counties.) Gas gathered by the system is delivered to three interstate transmission lines. These are located in Butler, Indiana and Westmoreland counties.

As well, there is a 10.5 mile (17 km) extension to the system that will connect it to a residue line at MarkWest’s Bluestone Plant in Butler County. The project also includes the construction of a compressor station in Armstrong County. Expanding the line will increase total capacity by 125,000 dekatherms of natural gas per day.

The East Washington Gathering System is a 20 mile (32.2 km) pipeline that will be used to gather natural gas in North and South Strabane Townships, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
